Romanian Passport Renewal

The Romanian passport proves the identity and citizenship of the holder, and entitles the holder to receive protection and assistance from the diplomatic missions and consular offices of Romania abroad. When a person applies for a Romanian passport, a few details are mandatory to be known. All applications for children under 18 require both parents consent.

The Romanian citizens living abroad can obtain the Romanian passport from the Romanian Consulate or from a special mandated person directly in Romania.

Required supporting documents might include and are not limited to any of the following:
  • Birth certificate
  • Certificates of identity
  • Proof of citizenship
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Self addressed stamped envelope

To renew a passport following the change of name after marriage, or due to any other reason, Romanian citizens residing abroad must enclose with their application form a certified Romanian translation of the marriage certificate, or of the document which attests the change of name.

If you do not have the necessary Romanian documents, for each missing Romanian document, you can mandate a lowyer in Romania as an Attorney-in-Law to get copies of the original documents from the Romanian authorities.
